Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern
Have you ever wondered how other people are able to move through their days so easily, when you feel like you’re barely holding it together? Truthfully, everyone has struggles, but some of us need additional support to navigate the particularly challenging times. I work with adults, teens and children, because life isn’t just tough on the grown-ups! We like to think that kids are insulated from all of the hardships of life, but the reality is that they need a safe space to explore their feelings just as much as adults do. If your family is like mine, only one person has to struggle for the whole family to be impacted.
Here’s what you can expect if you choose to work with me. I’ll provide you with a safe and judgment-free space, where we talk about what you want to talk about, at a pace that is comfortable for you. Although I’m a professional counselor, I don’t consider myself to be the expert in your life and I won’t be telling you how to “fix” yourself. Instead, we’ll work together to build a trusting therapeutic relationship where we can explore how your thoughts, feelings and behaviors may be preventing you from living your best life.
My treatment approach is tailored to the unique needs of each client. I believe that cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) can be helpful in getting adults and teens to recognize and change self-defeating thoughts and behaviors by learning new skills and strategies to cope with life’s challenges. With children, I utilize play therapy to provide them with an age-appropriate space to explore their feelings through their play, while also learning self-control, self-respect, problem-solving skills, and how to relate to others in positive ways. If you think we might be a good fit for each other, contact me today to get started.
